This retreat will help attendees learn the skills they need to take care of themselves physically, psychologically, and emotionally while advocating for animals. It will also provide information and techniques to help their activism be more sustainable, effective, and loving.
As we work to create the beloved community and address systemic injustices, we will encounter the suffering of others, as well as our own suffering. Compassion allows us to meet suffering with an open and connected heart and a balanced mind. Self-compassion allows us to offer to ourselves the empathy, understanding, and kindness we desperately need. In the previous class we concluded that the key to happiness is offering unconditional love to all people, beings, and life forms. But given the various and conflicting definitions of love in our culture, this talk clarifies what we mean by “love” and explains why it is a powerful and effective force for creating social change.
Mental Jiu-Jitsu is an easy-to-learn process that encourages contemplation and inquiry. It’s basic structure provides a systemic method that helps us dissect our delusional stories, see them from various perspectives, and respond to them from a wise and rational view. In this way, Mental Jiu-Jitsu helps us investigate, challenge, and expose delusional thinking, and respond to it in a kind and honest manner.
