Our Wellness and Liberation (OWL) Gathering at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

  • Minnesota Landscape Arboretum 3675 Arboretum Drive Chaska, MN, 55318 United States (map)

Join OWL for a free yoga class and exploration at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on Sunday February 2nd from 10-noon. This event is hosted by Sarah, an OWL participant.

The yoga class is taught by Good Vibrations Yoga! These classes are generally a gentle vinyasa flow, and always suitable for all ages and experience levels. For those who do not want to participate in yoga, we will go for a walk around the arboretum. Bring outdoor clothes for the walk. After yoga, we will spend some time exploring the indoor 2020 Spring Flower Show! This year's theme is Branching Out. Here is a brief description of the show:

"Woodlands, mossy mushroom logs, ferns and forests, spring bulbs and blooms galore will deliver the magic of spring under the canopy. Expect Norfolk pines, birches in abundance, branches draped with rustic baskets. Birds, bunnies, butterflies, and a babbling brook bring the beauty of the coming season to every visitor during February’s dreariness. The centerpiece in the Great Hall is a gorgeous glass house designed and constructed by family-owned Conservatory Craftsmen, featuring aeroponic edible gardens as seen at last year's Chelsea Flower Show in London. Throughout the show, crystal work by local artist Donna Rice will be placed to highlight their beauty. Claiming Mother Nature as her muse, her work features hibiscus, camillias, calla lilies, birds, nests, ladyslippers and more."

Please bring your own mat for yoga if possible and comfortable clothing to bend and stretch in. There will be restrooms available if you need to change. Sarah has an extra yoga mat if needed and they generally have a couple extra there for guests as well. Admission is $15 per person or free for members. Please reach out to Unny if you'd like to attend but admission is a concern for you. We have four free tickets to give away; you will need to arrive at the Chanhassan Lifetime Fitness at 9:30 am.

After our gathering, feel free to stay and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the arboretum if you'd like! The arboretum is open until 5 pm and has over 1200 acres of gardens, tree collections, prairies, big woods, and miles of trails winding throughout if you want to stay later. Other events happening that day include a winter tour of the Harrison Sculpture Garden ($5, registration required) and a free snowshoeing presentation and trek with Hoigaard's (bring your own snowshoes or rent a pair for $6).

This event is open to animal advocates and their friends. The intentions behind these regular meetings are to come together as a community, deepen our self-understanding, develop compassion towards ourselves and others, and become more loving, peaceful, and joyful animal advocates.

We welcome all animal advocates and their friends regardless of the kinds of animal advocacy you do, regardless of whatever secular or religious wisdom tradition you believe, regardless of whatever diet you may eat, and regardless of your meditation experience. Please come if you are able. We would love to see you.

About OWL’s Name

We chose the name Our Wellness and Liberation (OWL) for various reasons. Owls traditionally represent wisdom. Our acronym, OWL, represents the wisdom that we hope this group will help us cultivate and embody so we may live with more ease, purpose, and vitality. "Wellness" shows our desire to develop physical, spiritual, emotional, and social wellness within ourselves and our community. "Liberation" represents the freedom and well-being we seek for all human and nonhuman animals. "Our" emphasizes our desire to undertake this journey as a community, where we support each other along the way.
